ST. CLOUD -- A 17-year-old St. Cloud boy pleaded guilty to stabbing and killing a man in June after an argument broke out in the street.

Muhiyadin Mohammed Hassan has pleaded guilty to second degree unintentional murder in the death of 20-year-old Davee Devose.

According to court records Hassan and three others were walking by a house at the intersection of 6th Avenue South and 5th Street South in the early hours of June 29th when an argument broke out between Devose and the group. The argument escalated into a fight. That's when police say Devose was stabbed once in the chest with a knife.

Paramedics were unable to revive Devose and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stearns County prosecutor Matt Engelking says with the guilty plea, they will withdraw their motion to try Hassan as an adult. Sentencing guidelines call for a term of between 10 1/2-15 years in prison. But, Engelking says the sentence would be stayed to allow Hassan to complete a juvenile residential program in Red Wing.

Hassan could remain in the program until he turns 21, but the program can be completed in as little as 18-24 months. Regardless, Hassan will remain on juvenile probation until he turns 21 years old.

A sentencing date has been set for later this month.
