RICE - A man whose pickup truck was stolen helped Benton County deputies chase down the man who allegedly took it.

Twenty-six-year-old Daniel Boggs junior is facing charges of motor vehicle theft, fleeing police, criminal damage to property, and tampering with a motor vehicle.

The incident began at about 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday when the Benton County Sheriff's Department received a call of a suspicious vehicle in Watab Township.  The caller said they found an unoccupied car that was still running, but had left the roadway.

The sheriff's department then took multiple calls from residents in Rockwood Estates near Rice of a suspicious person trying to break into vehicles.

Boggs is accused of eventually stealing a pickup from the area on Wednesday night.  A high speed chase down Highway 10 reached speeds of 70 miles an hour. Boggs drove the vehicle into the ditch where he was arrested by deputies, with the help of the pickup owner and a second citizen.

Benton County Chief Deputy Troy Heck says while he appreciates the help, he doesn't recommend citizens getting involved in crimes in progress.
