Prince. When you say it, thoughts of the color purple, guitars, and great music come to mind. Prince always did come across as a bit shy, but I forgot all about his debut on American Bandstand until it popped up in my social media the other day.

DICK CLARK KNOWS TALENT WHEN HE SEES IT

Dick Clark, the host of American Bandstand, and quite seemingly one of the most liked professionals in the radio and television industry, was someone that you would hear Prince thank throughout his career time and time again.

THE OFFERS COME BUT PRINCE SAYS 'NO'

For those of you who LOVE Prince but maybe didn’t grow up with Dick Clark, I’d love to introduce you to the man that really brought out a young 19 year old boy; whose talent was being recognized by industry pro’s at the time. For a young man, Prince certainly stuck to his guns. In the interview (below) he appears shy but confident, as he answers Dick Clarks question about why he turned down 4 offers from industry professionals. His answer was simple; none of them would let him produce his own music. He was 15 at the time of those offers.

His personality was certainly different; it was soft and vulnerable, while at the same time, fierce and passionate. When you heard Prince speak, he was a man of few words; and clearly, music was his way of sharing his feelings with the world.
