MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (AP) - Police say a security guard shot and killed one of the six men who attacked him outside the Stargate Nightclub in Maplewood.

The man who died has been identified as 20-year-old Chou Tony Yang of St Paul.

Police say it happened early Friday after the guard asked a 20-year-old patron to leave.

Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell says the patron and five other men chased the guard into the parking lot, where he fell, and the group attacked the guard. He says the guard fired, striking Yang, who died later at Regions Hospital.

Schnell says the other men involved in the fatal altercation fled the scene.

Police say the 28-year-old security officer, an employee of JBM Patrol and Protection, is cooperating with investigators. His name has not been released.
