Minnesota Farmers Still Making Good Progress On Harvest

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Despite a week of having the fewest days suitable for fieldwork in a month, Minnesota farmers continue making progress in the harvest.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says in the weekly Minnesota crop report only 5.3 days were suitable for fieldwork in the week ending Sunday. That's the fewest days suitable for fieldwork in four weeks.

But Minnesota farmers still were able to harvest almost one-quarter of their corn acreage during the week. The corn harvest for grain is now 81 percent complete, 12 days ahead of last year and almost a week ahead of the five-year average. Corn moisture content was 16 percent.

Minnesota's soybean harvest is virtually complete, more than a week ahead of average.

Rain during the week helped replenish topsoil moisture across most of Minnesota.
