MILLE LACS -- Walleye season on Mille Lacs Lake will close after fishing hours next Monday, September 4.

Fishers that are angling for other fish from shore, dock or pier can use live bait during daylight hours through Thursday, November 30.

The live bait restriction remains in effect for fishermen in boats. You can fish for Muskie and Northern Pike at night using artificial lures longer than eight inches, or sucker minnows longer than eight inches.

Bowfishing for rough fish will also be allowed at night but having live bait or angling equipment is not allowed and only rough fish may be in possession.

With the open water Walleye season closing on Mille Lacs, fishers cannot fish for Walleye while fishing for other species.

The state of Walleye fishing on Mille Lacs has been a subject of debate and protest for some time, and the DNR has shut down the walleye season on or near Labor Day for the past two years, because of their concerns over the walleye population in the lake.
