ST. CLOUD -- Lend Me A Tenor takes center stage at the Pioneer Place Theatre for opening night.

It's a comedy about a famous Italian opera singer named Merelli who is set to make his singing debut in Cleveland in the 1930s.

The general manager of Cleveland Grand Opera Company puts his assistant, Max in charge of making sure Merelli gets to the show on time.

A series of unfortunate events leads to mistaken identity and chaos. Actor, Zach Curtis plays Merelli. Curtis say his character Merelli is a hard person to work with, "he shows up and is quite the handful. He doesn't want to go to rehearsal. He doesn't want to do anything really. He just wants to kind of sleep and get ready for the show."

Katherine Tiben-Holt plays the general manager's daughter Maggie. She falls in love with Merelli after having met him once.

She is one of many characters star struck by Merelli's fame and fortune. Art director, Jay Terry says the characters see Merelli as a way to better their own lives, "they are all trying to get something out of him. They think that their status will be elevated  just by knowing him or having met him...they think he can launch their career into fame."

The show premieres tonight at 7:30 p.m. and runs through October 3rd. Tickets are on sale now at the Pioneer Place box office.
