September 30, 1938 - January 16, 2015

 

Kenneth W. Kuschel, 76, of Brainerd, died Friday, January 16, 2015 at his home. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter with Pastor Steve Benson officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services and stay for a reception to follow at the Brenny Funeral Chapel Reception Room.

Ken was born September 30, 1938, in Brainerd, the son of Raymond and Irene (Holmes) Kuschel. He was raised in Pine Center before moving to the St. Paul when he began working for Burlington Northern Railroad. In 1973, he was united in marriage to Shirley Johnson, where they resided in Onamia, MN until moving to the Brainerd Lakes Area where Ken continued to work for the railroad as a sheet metal welder until his retirement in 1996.

Ken enjoyed the outdoors – hunting, fishing, snowmobiles, motorcycles, four wheeling, camping and especially maintaining his lawn. He also was a craftsman who liked woodworking.

He will be missed by his wife, Shirley; children, Michael Kuschel, of Aitkin, Jack (Lisa) Kuschel, of Forest Lake, Charles Kuschel, of OR, Robert Kuschel, of OR, David Johnson, of Brainerd, and Diane (Joe) Durbin, of Garrison; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and siblings, David (Carol) Kuschel, of Brainerd and Betty Jean Petrin, of Yuma, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents.
