SAUK RAPIDS - Two kayakers had to be rescued from the Mississippi River.

At about 2:15 p.m. yesterday (Monday) a bicyclist in Sauk Rapids heard calls from two people stranded on an island near Lions Park.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Department and a DNR officer responded.  Rescued were 21-year-old Kenneth Larkey and 16-year-old Steven Larkey of Sauk Rapids.

The Kayakers launched their boats in the Sauk River in Waite Park, but after they entered the Mississippi River they had trouble controlling their boats.  The Sheriff's Department reminds you that both rivers have fast moving water right now.
