The standard fish fry is, well, pretty standard.

After you've been to a few, you might have lost your taste for it. As Lent continues, why not make fish or seafood at home to mix things up a little bit?

Sysco Retail Store is offering 15-20 percent off pollock, shrimp, salmon, sushi, crab cakes, cod, walleye, lobster tail, and more during Lent, with additional specials available on fries, batter, and oil. It's all restaurant-quality food, and no membership is needed to shop there.

With that in mind, here are some ideas for DIY-ing it at home and mixing it up a bit:

1) Switch up the sides. Instead of fries, why not pair fried fish with onion rings, mozzarella sticks, cheese curds, or a similar side? Sysco Retail Store has such a wide variety; you can browse to find what your family would enjoy. If you're set on making your own fried fish, here's a quick recipe from the Food Network.

2) Go big with a little shrimp. There are so many ways to season and prepare shrimp, you probably can fix a few shrimp dinners without getting bored.

3) Enjoy a lighter option with salmon. If you need a break from fried foods, salmon packs a lot of flavor and can be baked or grilled, too.

4) Ready to make lobster tail at home? If you haven't done it before, might as well try when it's on sale.

5) Pair crab cakes with a salad. Some think of crab cakes as an appetizer, but if you pair a pair with a hearty salad, it's a quick and filling meal.

Of course, you always can pop into Sysco Retail Store900 Highway 10 S, Saint Cloud, and see what inspires you from their selection. They are open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays and from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.
