Discover The Magic Of The Lyrid Meteor Shower – A Celestial Phenomenon Coming Soon
METEOR SHOWER SEASON IS UPON US
Spring is not only the start of things greening up, it's also the beginning of meteor shower season. The annual Lyrid meteor shower is upon us and the best times to watch the skies for the Lyrid Meteor Shower will be late in the evening on Sunday, April 21st, Through dawn on Monday morning, April 22nd, 2024.
When the sky is dark with no moon, you could see anywhere from 10 to 15 Lyrids in an hour, but sometimes there are uncommon surges, and in those instances, you could be lucky enough to see a hundred in an hour! Let's hope that's the case for you.

BLAZING A TRAIL
There are also some Lyrid meteors that have a trail that can be seen behind them if there's no moon in the sky. The trail is an ionized gas that glows for just a few seconds after the meteor passes.
THE ORIGINS OF THE LYRID METEOR SHOWER
The Lyrid Meteor shower came from Comet Thatcher, which you won't be able to see, as it is now quite far away and traveling away from us. It won't begin its voyage back to us until the year 2070, and won't be visible to us until the year 2283.
HOW TO FIND THE LYRID METEOR SHOWER'S MOST RADIANT SPOT
Look for the bright star called Vega in the constellation Lyra, which should rise in the northeast around 9 to 10 pm. The higher Vega gets in the sky, the more meteors we will see.
Get your family together and enjoy this fantastic night under the stars.
