ST. PAUL (AP) -- Hoping to project a get-to-work image, Gov.-elect Mark Dayton has scheduled a series of inaugural events that will conclude with a ball where blue jeans are encouraged.

Dayton takes his oath next Monday. The ceremony will be held in downtown St. Paul at Landmark Center rather than at the state Capitol.

Other events include a breakfast at an elementary school named after Dayton's former Democratic colleague, the late Sen. Paul Wellstone. He also will hold a Capitol open house and travel the state as the week wears on.

The festivities are to end Saturday with a "People's Inaugural Ball" where Dayton plans to dress in blue jeans.

Dayton's itinerary - right down to the dress code - is along the lines of the 1983 inaugural for then-Democratic Gov. Rudy Perpich.
