Dayton Orders Review Of Minnesota Capitol Safeguards
ST. PAUL (AP) -- Gov. Mark Dayton is directing his staff and asking top lawmakers to review security measures at the Minnesota Capitol in the wake of Saturday's mass shooting at a public official's event in Arizona.
Dayton said Monday that he wants the review of policies and procedures to be done "as soon as practicable." Dayton says he is confident current security in the building is "very sound."
The Democrat, only a week into his term, says he doesn't favor adding metal detectors to a building where there aren't any at entrance points. He says it's important to maintain a balance between reasonable security and public accessibility to their elected officials.
Dayton made his remarks after gathering staff for a moment of silence reflecting on the six dead and many injured in Arizona.
