The Wild finally got on the board in the third period with goals from Matt Dumba and Eric Staal in the third period, but Washington's Jay Beagle sealed the game with a late goal.

Mikko Koivu scored the Wild's only goal of the game with just over ten seconds left in the first period on a fluttering shot from center ice. The Wild outshot St. Louis 33-20 in the loss.

Eric Staal scored a pair of goals for Minnesota in the win, including an empty-netter with time winding down. Zach Parise also scored for the Wild in his return from a short absence due to the mumps.

Minnesota will host San Jose Sunday evening at Xcel Energy Center. Puck drop is slated for 5 p.m. on AM 1390 KXSS.

The Wild's 88 points puts them five ahead of Chicago with one less game played. Minnesota's two-game road swing continues Thursday night at Columbus.

The Wild improve to 40-14-6 on the season with the win. Minnesota will play at Winnipeg on Tuesday night on AM 1390 KXSS.

The Wild are off until Monday night when they host the Los Angeles Kings at Xcel Energy Center to conclude their eight game home stand.
