Kennys Vargas smacked a two-run home run in the fourth inning off of White Sox starter Mike Pelfrey to give the Twins a 3-2 lead. Twins outfielder Byron Buxton had a three hit game, while Joe Mauer and Jorge Polanco each had a pair of hits in the win.
The anticipated pitcher's duel between Ervin Santana and Chris Sale never truly materialized, with Santana giving up three runs in the top of the first inning and Sale allowing the Twins to tie the game with four runs in the fifth.
The Twins will host the Boston Red Sox Friday night at Target Field. Phil Hughes will get the start for Minnesota against the Red Sox Eduardo Rodriguez.
Minnesota batted around in the fifth inning, at one point stringing together five straight hits. Miguel Sano started the surge with a solo home run, and capped the rally with an RBI single but was thrown out trying to advance to second.
