Bennies Sweep Carleton in Doubleheader, Twins Drop Season Opener

The College of St. Benedict softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Carleton, the St. Cloud Norsemen topped Minot for their second straight win, the Minnesota Wild came up short against St. Louis in overtime, and the Twins lost their home opener on Friday. On Saturday, the St. Cloud State University softball and St. John's baseball team will retake the field when they host conference doubleheaders.

RECAPS:

- The Bennies swept Carleton College in a MIAC conference doubleheader on Friday. CSB took game one 10-1 in six innings and game two 9-1 in five innings. Jordyn Swoboda led St. Ben's with four runs on the day. Gabby Spencer added three. The Bennies improve to 15-2 and 3-0 MIAC. They will travel to Minneapolis to face Augsburg in a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.

- The Norsemen kept their momentum going to earn a 4-1 win over the Minot Minotauros. Brandon Lajoie led all scorers with two goals for St. Cloud. The Norsemen improve to 38-16-2-1 and the Minotauros fall to 28-26-2-1. The teams will conclude the weekend series in Minot on Saturday at 7:35 p.m.

- The Twins fell 2-1 to the Seattle Mariners in their season and home opener on Friday. Gio Urshela scored the lone run for Minnesota. Joe Ryan threw four strikeouts and allowed two hits and two runs through four innings. The Twins fall to 0-1 and will continue the series against the Mariners on Saturday at Target Field. Pre-game coverage begins at 12:30 p.m. on AM 1240 and 95.3 FM WJON

- The Wild dropped a close road game, 4-3 in OT to the St. Louis Blues. Kevin Fiala, Kirill Kaprizov, and Jacob Middleton each lit the lamp once for Minnesota. The Wild fall to 43-21-6 and will host the Kings on Sunday. Pre-game coverage starts at 3:45 p.m. on AM 1390 and 93.9 FM Granite City Sports.

- The Huskies (20-9 and 8-0 NSIC) will host the University of Concordia-St. Paul (21-6-1 and 4-4 NSIC) in St. Joseph on Saturday. St. Cloud is 22-23 all-time against the Golden Bears. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.

- The Johnnies (10-10 and 2-0 MIAC) will host Carleton College (3-9) in a doubleheader on Saturday. The Knights have yet to play a conference game, as their doubleheader with Gustavus was postponed last week. SJU is 34-15 all-time against Carleton. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
