COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Minnesota Republican Michele Bachmann says she is weighing requests for her to write a book, which politicians sizing up the White House tend to do.

After a rally Monday at South Carolina's Capitol, Bachmann told The Associated Press that she is "in the early talking stages" about a book. The third-term congresswoman says she's received several requests but is deciding whether she'll have the time to devote to such an undertaking.

Aside from financial gain, political memoirs give hopefuls a chance to introduce themselves on their own terms.

Other possible GOP candidates with books to their name include former Govs. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, Sarah Palin of Alaska and Mike Huckabee of Arkansas.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has written several books.
