UND Nickname List Narrowed Down To Five

GRAND FORKS -- Fighting Hawks, Nodaks, North Stars, Roughriders, and Sundogs -- those are the finalists for UND's new nickname.

The final list was submitted Tuesday night by the UND Nickname Committee.

According to the Universities website, UND President Robert Kelley says 'we are confident that we have a sound basis of public input and careful deliberation as we take these potential nicknames into the next phase of this process and take the final steps towards identifying a nickname for the University of North Dakota.'

The final voting will take place after students and staff return to campus.

The new nickname search comes after the previous "Fighting Sioux" nickname was retired in 2012.
