St. Joseph

A popular building in downtown St. Joseph will see some updates in the near future. The old Loso building at 25 Minnesota Street West is home to the Minnesota Street Market, Closet to Closet and the Artisan Naan Bakery. A balcony will be added to the front of the building and will feature historical photographs. Other improvements include repainting the building facade, adding more lighting and reconstructing the roof overhang.

St. Joseph is starting initial fundraising for a proposed $6.1 Million aquatic center project. The city wants to see what kind of sponsorship and money could be available for the project. Mayor Rick Schultz says a portion of the project costs will need to be covered by fundraising. The proposed aquatic center includes a lazy river, lap pool, splash pool, zero depth entry pool, climbing wall and a zip line.

St. Joseph is looking to possibly update its city government building. The primary focus is on the Police Department, which operates from the building. A recent community task force study recommended the city update their government building to give the department more space.

Change is coming for the historic Rolling Ridge Wedding and Event Center and Scenic Specialties location in St. Joseph. Owner Randy Schmitz says they have had increasing requests to use the property for special events like weddings over the past few years. Schmitz bought the historic 1896 farm in 2001. It's located at 31101 County Road 133.

A new deli style-pizza shop is being planned in St. Joseph. Sliced on College Avenue will serve pizza and deli style American contemporary food. The project includes a late night pizza by the slice service window

The St. Joseph city council had a closed discussion on Monday night to discuss possibly buying the Colts Academy building for a community center. The former Kennedy School is at 124 1st Avenue Southeast. No action to was taken by the council during the closed meeting

A St. Joseph family had a story book ending yesterday (Thursday) after receiving a special gift. It's always hard to put a good book down. United Way of Central Minnesota Imagination Library has been putting books in the hands of kids in the area since 2005.

Police have identified the five-year-old boy who was killed in an apparent hit and run in St. Joseph on Monday. Police were called to the 300 block of 1st Avenue Northwest just after 2:30 p.m. on Monday.

St. Joseph recognized a four-year-old girl who they say saved an apartment from being burned down.The incident happened back on February 24th. St. Joseph Police Chief Joel Klein says a grease fire started in the apartment with 4-year-old ShyAnn Jamison inside.
