The Minnesota Wild signed the top two available NHL free agents left wing Zach Parise and defenseman Ryan Suter to 13-year $98 Million contracts on Wednesday. Parise and Suter are both 27-years old and have Minnesota ties. Parise grew up in Minnesota, played high school hockey at Shattuck St. Mary's in Faribault, college hockey at North Dakota and is the son of former Minnesota North Star J.P. Parise. Suter's wife is from Bloomington, Minnesota.

Parise arrived in Minnesota yesterday to talk over his decision with his family but indicated to the Star Tribune that him being here didn't necessarily indicate that he would sign with the Wild. The Wild visited Suter in Madison, Wisconsin Tuesday but so did Detroit.

Konopka signs a 2-year deal worth $925,000 per season and Mitchell signs a 3-year contract worth $1.9 Million a season.

Current Wild players Nate Prosser and Jason Zucker and the radio broadcast team of Bob Kurtz and Tom Reid will be on hand for the event. The group will sign autographs and meet the public. People can play the interactive game chuck a puck at the event. The Granite City Cafe with Jay Caldwell and Lee Voss will broadcast live at the event from noon-2 today.

In the 2nd round the Wild picked left wing Raphael Bussires from Canada, 3rd round pick was defenseman John Draeger from Shattack St. Mary's in Faribault, Minnesota, 4th round pick was center Adam Gilmore from the U.S., 5th round defenseman Daniel Gunnarsson from Sweden, 6th round center Christoph Bertschy from Switzerland and 7th round Louis Nanne from Edina, Minnesota.

The Minnesota Wild have the 7th overall pick in the NHL draft Friday night. Wild assistant General Manager Brent Flahr says the Wild will draft the best talent available and not for need. The first overall pick is expected to be Russian right wing Nail Yakupov. Edmonton will pick first. The first round of the draft will take place Friday night with rounds 2-7 to take place on Saturday. Minnesota has one pick in each round.
