Itasca County sheriff's officials are investigating the death of a Deer River woman as a homicide. Sheriff's officials say 43-year-old Sonya Ann Smith died from multiple traumatic injuries due to assault.
The city of Duluth is expecting big crowds for this week's tall ships festival - and that means a big windfall, too. Visit Duluth President Terry Mattson estimates the festival that starts Thursday will bring in $15 million, as well as priceless publicity.
July 25th-27th, 8 tall masted ships, right out of Pirates of the Caribbean, will arrive in Port au Duluth. They're expecting at least a quarter million spectators to the event.
