The fight for control of the Minnesota Legislature has a new urgency for Democrats gathering in Rochester for their state convention this weekend. About 2,700 party activists will meet at the Mayo Civic Center on Saturday to endorse U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar for a second term and pick delegates to the Democratic National Convention.
DFL Lawmakers Make Stop In St. Cloud To Talk Budget Stalemate
Three Democratic lawmakers made a stop in St. Cloud today to talk about the end of the Legislative session and a special session that will be needed to approve a new state budget. Representative Larry Hosch of St. Joseph and Representative John Ward of Brainerd were joined by Assistant Senate Minority Leader Terri Bonoff of Minnetonka.
Iron Range Democrats Cry Foul On Trust-Fund Shift
Democrats who represent Minnesota's Iron Range in the Legislature are ripping Republican plans to shift money out of an economic development trust fund fueled by a production tax on mining companies. A House GOP jobs and economic development budget bill would shift $60 million from the Douglas J. Johnson Trust Fund. A Senate proposal proposes a $45 million shift.
