A company looking to build large grain elevator and rail terminal has been given preliminary approval to put the $20-million facility on an 80-acre site along Highway 23 in St. Joseph Township.
Poultry and livestock producers are upset with a plan by agribusiness giant Archer Daniels Midland Co. for a big grain elevator in Stearns County. The farmers fear it will drive up feed costs when corn prices are already near record highs.
The Stearns County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing today (Tuesday) on a plan to give a tax break to Archer Daniels Midland. However, they didn't take any action and plan to vote on it later this month.
