Look Out! Prices Are Going Up At this Minnesota Discount Store
Call it a sign of the times I suppose. Everything is costing more, and people are having to re-think how and where they spend their money.
There have been several reports already stating that people with higher incomes have been shopping at what are generally considered discount chain stores.
That has been good for business it appears for one national chain, Dollar Tree.
Everything Dollar Tree stores used to sell would cost one dollar, except for certain things like greeting cards which you could get two for a dollar.
Then a few years ago, in 2021, Dollar Tree increased the overall price on the products they sell to $1.25. Around the same time the chain began to feature some higher priced specialty products that cost either $3 or $5.
With higher incomed residents shopping there now, some of the higher priced items will now be $7.
A report this week from the CEO of the company says that the fastest growing demographic of their customer base is making over $125,000 per year.
The decision to increase the prices on the overall cost of items comes from the fourth quarter earnings report.

The average base price for items in Dollar Tree will now be $1.50 each instead of the $1.25 we’ve gotten used to. As many people have talked about in the media already, gas prices have affected everything, from the standpoint of being able to ship items to the stores.
Plus, I’m sure the cost of materials to make the items we buy from Dollar Tree stores are continuing to increase as well. This increase probably shouldn’t come as a surprise to us, it appears it’s just another adjustment that we’ll have to get used to.
