GOP Senators to Pick New Leader Next Week
ST. PAUL (AP) — Minnesota Republican senators will meet in St. Paul next week to choose a new majority leader after the sudden resignation of Sen. Amy Koch over allegations of an inappropriate relationship with an employee.
The Senate Republican caucus is scheduled to meet next Tuesday. It will be the first meeting since Koch resigned the Senate's top leadership post last week. A day later, several of her colleagues revealed they had confronted her over rumors of the relationship with a male Senate staffer.
Koch said she won't run for reelection next year. She has not responded to numerous phone messages left by The Associated Press.
Only one Republican senator, Mike Jungbauer, has declared a candidacy for the majority leader post. But numerous other senators have said they're considering it.
