Gay Marriage Minnesota’s Top Story of 2013
MINNEAPOLIS - Gay marriage, the sexual abuse of minors by Catholic clergy and the rocky start of MNsure are among Minnesota's top news stories of 2013.
Two and a half months after Governor Mark Dayton signed a bill making Minnesota the 12th state to legalize gay marriage, couples began exchanging vows on August 1st.
The clergy sexual abuse scandal was spurred by a former canon lawyer for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minnesota who became a whistleblower. Archbishop John Nienstedt has stepped down from public ministry while police investigate an allegation that he improperly touched a boy during a group photo session - a claim Nienstedt denies.
And the deadline to sign up for health insurance through MNsure has been extended to Tuesday while officials continue working out the bugs.
