That picture is peak comedy, I don't care who you are.

Apparently, shopping at Dollar General can be as dangerous as some war zones. I didn't think the 'General' implied the risk of death, but here we are.

Dollar General is On the Clock to Improve Store Safety

It's not just Dollar General employees being put at risk; even customers have died there. OSHA has cited DG for unsafe conditions dozens of times, and now the Department of Labor has fined DG $12 million and given them 48 hours (from when? I dunno, guess. It's more exciting that way) to finally do something about it.

What Did They Do (or Not Do)?

The safety violations are related to blocked exits, fire extinguishers, and electrical panels. Blocked by what?

Merchandise. Why is the merchandise there?

Chronic understaffing at stores leaves no employee free to stock and maintain the store, so pallets of merchandise just sit in the way. A fire or armed robbery gets exacerbated when you can't escape because a pallet of cheap crap is blocking the aisles.

If Dollar General fails to make the improvements in time, they'll be fined $500,000 per violation. Considering that they have over 19,000 stores, that'll add up quick.

It shouldn't take fines for a company to do something as simple as hiring enough employees to stock and maintain your store and not die in the process, but what do I know? I'm just a simple radio jerk.
