UNDATED -- It won't be long before the snow will be flying and the mercury stays below the freezing mark. As a result, AAA Minnesota spokeswoman Gail Weinholzer says now is the time to prepare your vehicle for winter.

Weinholzer says it starts with having your battery and charging system checked to make sure your vehicle starts this winter. Another good tip is to look over your tires for proper tread and tire pressure.

Other tips include having your engine hoses and brakes checked by a professional, replace wiper blades if necessary and check all of your lights to make sure they are all in working order.

Finally, Weinholzer says prepare an emergency roadside kit in case you become stranded.
