It's been nearly 50 years but Minnesota's 'golden road' has been restored. The 'golden road' is a portion of I-90 that runs through Faribault County, down in Southern Minnesota, and it's gold in color for a reason.

When I-90 was being built to span America from the East to the West the final portion of the road to be built happened to fall in Minnesota. To honor the transcontinental road being completed officials in Minnesota decided to recognize the feat and a portion of the shoulders were gold to commemorate the occasion.

Well, it's been 46 years of wear, tear, and tires rolling over it, dulling and discoloring the piece of freeway. Eventually, the interstate road needed repairs beyond patches and that was finally accomplished this week, as the construction project has started to wrap up.

One thing that the engineers wanted to make sure they included again with this part of I-90 was the golden color that signifies where East met West on this road-building project. It appears the engineers didn't forget, as yesterday pictures from a press conference on I-90 were shared and the road looks great!

The golden panels are back on I-90 near Blue Earth! First added in 1978 to be reminiscent of the ‘Golden Spike’ that marked the completion of the nation’s first transcontinental railroad, the panels were later paved over. Now, they're back as part of an I-90 pavement project!

How awesome is this!
