SAUK RAPIDS -- Although the Vietnam War ended nearly 40 years ago, the wounds of war are still visible for many veterans. However, there is a statewide event that is looking to help heal some of those wounds.

Ride For Healing is gathering motorcycle and classic car drivers from all corners of Minnesota, touring VFW posts, including stops here in Central Minnesota Thursday.

Tom Tauber is the commander of VFW Post 6992 in Sauk Rapids. He says this event will show appreciation to veterans who were never shown any when returning to the states.

Riders will be stopping at VFW Posts 4847 and 428 in St. Cloud and Post 6992 in Sauk Rapids. Tauber is encouraging all community members to come out and enjoy the festivities.

Nearly 10,000 participants are expected to meet at the Crow Wing County Fairgrounds in Brainard on Saturday with flyovers, all-day ceremonies and a chance to see the Traveling Vietnam Wall.

Rick Seaman, known as the stunt man in the movie Catch Me If You Can, will be in the area filming the events, which will be shown on the Veterans Nation TV Network.

Food and live music will be provided at the stop in Sauk Rapids Thursday.

Local stops in the St. Cloud area include:
1-2:30 p.m. at Granite Post 428 in St. Cloud
3-4 p.m. at Post 6992 in Sauk Rapids
4 p.m.- overnight stay at Post 4847 in St. Cloud
