ST. CLOUD - The Stearns County Jail is undergoing a major remodel project this year.

Sheriff John Sanner says they will be expanding the booking area, and make the process more efficient.

Sanner says they also plan to increase the female housing area in the jail.

The jail is filled to capacity on most days, which means they're sending some inmates to other county jails.

Right now the Stearns County Jail can house 167 inmates in the secure facility.

Construction is expected to take most of this year, and should be completed by December.

The $5.1-million project is part of Stearns County's capital improvement plan.

Each Monday at 12:45 p.m. on the News @ Noon Show on WJON, for the next several weeks, we'll be bringing in different area Sheriff's and city Police Chiefs from the area and talk about their departments.
