ST. CLOUD - Transportation funding continues to be a hot topic down at the State Capitol. On Monday Governor Mark Dayton unveiled his transportation plan, that includes a 6.5 percent sales tax on gas, and higher vehicle registration fees.

DFL Representative Paul Marquart of Dilworth says it would mean more money for local governments.

However, Republican Senator John Pederson of St. Cloud says he still doesn't like the idea of a gas tax increase. Instead, he says Republican members of the Senate Transportation committee will introduce a bill next week that would use existing sales taxes.

Earlier in the session Pederson floated the idea of designating the statewide business tax for transportation funding, but he says that idea received too much opposition from both parties.
