MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Former U.S. Rep. James Oberstar will be honored for his long public service career Tuesday at the Humphrey Center in Minneapolis.

Oberstar is scheduled to speak, and his new role at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School will be discussed.

The 36-year House veteran was unseated by Republican Chip Cravaack in northeastern Minnesota's 8th Congressional District in November. Oberstar was chair of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and has said he wants to be part of public policy after leaving office.

The tribute is hosted by the university's Humphrey School of Public Affairs, the Center for Transportation Studies, and the Minnesota Transportation Alliance.
