St. Cloud State Wrestling brings home 3rd place at National Championship

St. Cloud State University is in third place after Friday at the NCAA DII Wrestling Championship

St. Cloud State senior wrestler Shamus O'Grady was named NSIC Wrestler of the Week Monday after going 4-0 last week. O'Grady (184 lbs) earned a win over MSU-Moorhead's Matt Lewellen on January 17th to start his week. St. John's senior kicker Jimmie Mattson of Eau Claire, Wisconsin is the MIAC football special teams player of the week. He was 3-3 on field goals and made his lone extra point try in St. John's 27-22 loss at Bethel Saturday. Mattson made a season best 49-yard field to tie the game at 3 in the first half. St. John's finished their season with a 5-5 overall record.

The St. Cloud State wrestling team is ranked #2 in the first Division II Wrestling Coaches Association poll. The Huskies were runner-up for 2 consecutive seasons at Division II and finished the 2011-2012 season with a perfect 21-0 dual meet record. The SCSU wrestling team returns 4 NCAA All-Americans, Andy Pokorny, Jake Kahnke, Shamus O'Grady, and Jacob D. Horn.

The St. Cloud State wrestling team won the NCAA Division II Super Region 3 tournament in St. Cloud Sunday. SCSU finished with 164 points with Upper Iowa 2nd with 155.5 points. St. Cloud State's Tad Merritt at 165 pounds won the individual title at 165 pounds and was chosen as the most valuable wrestler at the tournament.

#1 St. Cloud State 19, #3 Upper Iowa 12 (St. Cloud State sets a record for single season wins with 20. The Huskies are 20-0 on the season)

#1 St. Cloud State 41, UW-Eau Claire 3 (SCSU is 13-0) The St. Cloud State baseball team is picked to finish 2nd in the NSIC preseason coaches poll. Minnesota State-Mankato is picked to win the conference title.

The top ranked St. Cloud State wrestling team won 28-12 over the University of Mary Sunday. SCSU is 13-0 overall and 2-0 in the NSIC The St. Cloud State women's nordic skiing team finished 8th in Coleraine, Minnesota Sunday.
