To help tell the story about Popple Creek I was joined by Benton County Historical Society Executive Director Mary Ostby and longtime Popple Creek area resident Lancy Studanski.

Popple Creek is an unincorporated community in Mayhew Lake Township in Benton County located along County Roads 3 and 4 near St. Cloud and Gilman.

According to Tim Johnson, the man who submitted the video, the funnel cloud had started as a wall cloud, and formed into a funnel.

During the days of prohibition, Benton County was just as established for running moonshine as Stearns County was, although most families in the county are still reluctant to talk about their past connections with Chicago gangsters. Ostby says one of the moonshine hotspots was Popple Creek and store/saloon.
