Today in our follow-up series called "Whatever Happened With That?" the WJON news team is looking into the plan to build a four-story office building next to city hall in downtown St. Cloud.
The plan to build a $19 million office building in downtown St. Cloud cleared a big hurdle this (Monday) evening, after another lengthy discussion by the St. Cloud City Council. The council voted 5-2 to approve the Planned Unit Development for the Highbanks Crossing project, including the approval of vacating 3rd Street South.
The St. Cloud city council continues to struggle with the plan to bring a large new office building to the downtown. After a long discussion during tonight's (Monday) meeting, the council decided to table the General Development Plan for a four-story 60,000 square foot office and retail building at the intersection of Highway 23 and 5th Avenue South.
The plan for a new $19 million downtown St. Cloud office building is moving forward, despite a lot of opposition from neighborhood residents, and from some city council members. During their meeting this (Monday) evening, the council approved a request to rezone the property along 5th Avenue. However, the council declined to take a vote on the PUD for a General Development Plan, or whether to vacate 3rd Street South.
