Cathedral Baseball

The St. Cloud Cathedral baseball team faces Minnewaska Area tonight in a winner bracket game in Section 6AA at Dick Putz Field at 7pm. The Crusaders are unbeaten and have knocked off Holdingford, Sauk Centre and Melrose to get to this point.

The Cathedral baseball team is headed to the Class AA State Championship game after downing Glencoe-Silver Lake 6-0 Friday afternoon. Brindley Theisen threw the complete game shutout to earn the win. Cathedral scored 3 first inning runs and Jeff Fasching added a solo homerun.

The High School baseball playoffs started in section 8-3-A Monday but began Tuesday in Section 6-AA. Cathedral opened the tournament with a 4-1 win over Rocori.

The Cathedral baseball team defeated Luverne 4-1 in the Class AA State Tournament quarterfinals at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud Thursday morning. Jeff Fasching threw all 7 innings with 1 run and 1 hit allowed to get the win. Tom Imholte drove in a pair of runs for the Crusaders.

St. Cloud Cathedral won the 16 and under VFW State Tournament held in Mankato over the weekend. Cathedral beat Champlin Park 1-0 and 10-1 Sunday to win 6 straight games. Cathedral was 7-1 in the tournament after beginning the tournament 1-1 on Thursday.

Longtime Cathedral head baseball coach Bob Karn has been selected for induction into the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. The Hall honors service to amateur baseball in Minnesota. Bob's induction has probably been delayed because he is the curator of the Hall of Fame in St. Cloud and would never allow himself to be nominated.

The Cathedral baseball team lost 5-0 to Holy Family Monday afternoon at Target Field in the Class AA state championship game. Kasey Ralston threw the complete-game 2-hit shutout with 7 strikeouts to get the win for Holy Family. Eric Pelant allowed 3 hits and 3 earned runs in 3 1/3 innings to take the loss for the Crusaders. Bo Schmitz and Tommy McMorrow each had 1 hit for Cathedral.

The Cathedral baseball team is playing Monday in the Class AA State championship game for a 2nd straight year. The Crusaders won the state title at Target Field in 2011 and can successfully defend their state title with a win today over Holy Family Catholic at 3pm at Target Field, pregame on AM 1390-the Fan at 2:55. Cathedral scored 4 runs in the top of the 9th inning to beat Proctor 9-8 in 9 innings in the Class 2A state tournament semifinals at Dick Putz Field Friday afternoon. Proctor scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning but couldn't pull out the win. Brian Minks had 3 hits and 2 RBIs and Mike Kerber had 2 hits and 3 runs scored for the Crusaders. Eric Pelant threw the final 1 2/3 innings to get the win.

The Cathedral baseball team defeated Delano 5-0 Thursday night to advance to the Class AA state tournament semifinals against Proctor today at 2:30, pregame on AM 1390-the Fan at 2:25. The Crusaders scored all 5 of their runs in the 2nd inning. Eric Pelant threw a complete-game 4-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts to get the win for the Crusaders. Mike Kerber and Matt Dodge each had 2 hits for the Crusaders and Jeff Facshing had 2 RBIs.
