Participants Wanted for Annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake Fundraiser
Bowl a Strike, Make an Impact

Little Sister Jacky was a soft-spoken, 8-year-old girl, dealing with a complex family situation when she was matched with her Big Sister, Darcy Frank-Henrichs. Jacky was in need of a consistent, positive role model and Darcy, a school teacher, saw mentoring as an extension of being an educator.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota has over 100 children facing unique challenges on its waiting list. The youth-serving organization does not charge a fee to participate or ask kids to fundraise, but does require funding to carefully screen volunteers and provide ongoing monitoring and guidance to its mentoring matches.

This October, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota will host its annual fall fundraiser, Bowl for Kids’ Sake, which provides a fun and entertaining platform for community members to get involved and make a difference for local children facing adversity.

Participants form a team of five bowlers and choose the date, time, and location of their bowling session. Each bowler is asked to raise $50 to support Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mission of matching children with mentors, but with the creative use of social media and peer-to-peer fundraising, many raise much more. Each bowler that raises $50 or more will receive free bowling, shoes, and the opportunity to win prizes.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota’s goal is to raise $50,000 through its bowling fundraiser and is challenging everyone—mentors and mentees, their friends and families, community members, and local businesses—to join the fun and help change the life of a child forever.

Local businesses are encouraged to participate in friendly competition by forming challenges with other businesses or departments within their company. This year will be the third annual St. Cloud Area Auto Dealers Competition, a growing challenge among local car dealers led by Luther Honda of St. Cloud and St. Cloud Subaru.

There’s still time for local businesses to show their support by becoming event sponsors, donating prizes, and encouraging employees to participate.

Big Brothers Big Sisters also has raffle tickets available for the bowling fundraiser for $10 each. There are many enticing raffle prizes including a $1,000 shopping spree at J.F. Kruse Jewelers. Tickets can be purchased at the Big Brothers Big Sisters office or during the bowling event.

Without the support of our community, matches like Darcy’s and Jacky’s wouldn’t be possible. The two have now been matched for 8 impactful years. Darcy proudly reports that Jacky has grown into a strong, determined young woman. They consider one another family and their friendship continues to grow and blossom.

To take part in this year’s bowling event and help other children benefit from a friendship with a caring, supportive mentor, please visit the BBBS website or contact Khamara at (320) 258-4511.
