Additional Information

Please join us in celebrating the rich history of The Good Shepherd Community at our 60th Anniversary Celebration open house on Saturday, July 22nd from 1:00 – 3:00 pm under the big top tent in our parking lot at 1115 4th Ave N, Sauk Rapids, MN.

Sauk Rapids Mayor Kurt Hunstiger will share a welcome and a few personal remarks, followed by a brief performance of the St. Cloud Area Singing Saints Men’s Acapella Chorus. Snack refreshments will be available.

Members of the Color Guard will be present. Some of these men were in 8th grade and attended Trinity Lutheran Church when the nursing home was built. They planted trees and helped with the grand opening celebration. We will also be honoring past members of our Good Shepherd Ladies Auxiliary. During the early years, auxiliary members and Church volunteers from the local sponsoring congregations of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod were the backbone in keeping the nursing home up and running. They supplied the labor to work in the kitchens preparing meals, often bringing in their own produce from their gardens, washing dishes, doing the laundry, making beds, sewing the curtains for resident rooms, and so much more. When regulations and staffing requirements changed the ladies shifted to providing support in other ways like visiting residents, shopping for them, helping with activities and special events and celebrations, escorting residents to appointments, letter writing, fundraising for needed items and the list goes on. Sadly, the Ladies Auxiliary dissolved in 2008, but many members of the Church congregations still are actively volunteering with us and doing many of the same types of tasks.

Please join us in reminiscing and fellowship on July 22nd.
