Xcel Energy has announced a plan to retire two of the three units at Minnesota's largest power plant, its Sherco facility in Becker. The Minneapolis-based utility says it's part of a strategy to cut its carbon emissions 60 percent by 2030.

Several Xcel Energy customers on the west side of the St. Cloud metro area dealt with a without power this (Wednesday) morning. Xcel says they had two outages, that impacted nearly 2,500 customers in the Westwood neighborhood in St. Cloud, as well as parts of Waite Park, Sartell, and St. Joseph.
