A Minnesota lawmaker wants to make sure the Minnesota-North Dakota men's college hockey rivalry continues after the Gophers leave the WCHA. Rep. Ryan Winkler, D-Golden Valley, introduced a bill Thursday that would pay the University of Minnesota $800,000 in any year that Minnesota plays North Dakota at least once.

North Dakota To Retire Sioux Nickname

The University of North Dakota's Board of Higher Education decided Monday to retire the Fighting Sioux nickname by the year's end. This move anticipates lawmakers will soon repeal a law requiring the school to keep the nickname. The board voted unanimously to restart the process of dumping the nickname and a logo depicting the American Indian warrior, symbols the NCAA contends are offensive.
