St. Cloud State Football

St. Cloud State quarterback Phil Klaphake of Princeton and defensive back Marvin Mathews of Roseville are the 2012 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Offensive and Defensive football players of the year. The players are chosen by the NSIC coaches. Klaphake is a 6'1 185 pound junior who's been a 3-year starter at quarterback for SCSU. Mathews is a 6'0 197 pound senior who was named first team all NSIC last season among other honors.

The St. Cloud State football team announced the signing of 21 players to National Letters of intent Wednesday on College Football National Signing Day. The players signed are; quarterback Scott Benedict from Shorewood, Minnesota and Minnetonka High School, quarterback Harrison Rund of South St. Paul, running backs Casey Townsend of Sussex, Wisconsin, Kenneth

St. Cloud State football coach Scott Underwood is one of 5 finalists for the Division II 2011 Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award. Underwood led the Huskies to their 2nd straight NCAA Division II tournament appearance this season and finished with a 9-3 record. SCSU lost to Wayne State (Michigan) in the first round of the NCAA tournament 2 weeks ago.

The St. Cloud State football team lost 48-38 in the first round of the NCAA Division II Super Region #3 Saturday afternoon at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud. Wayne State led 27-24 at halftime and increased its lead to 41-31 at the end of 3 quarters. Phil Klaphake threw for 284 yards and 3 touchdowns in the loss for SCSU. Klaphake ran for 87 yards to lead SCSU on the ground.

The St. Cloud State football team is the #3 seed in the Super Region NCAA Division II tournament. The pairings were announced Sunday. SCSU will play #6 Wayne State (Michigan) Saturday November 19 at SCSU's Husky Stadium. The Huskies are 9-2 while Wayne State is 8-3.

College Football: #11 St. Cloud State 35, Minnesota-Duluth 7 (SCSU is 8-1 and will play at Bemidji State at 1pm Saturday) St. John's 47, Carleton 14 (St. John's is 4-4 overall and 3-3 in the MIAC. The Johnnies host St. Olaf at 1pm Saturday)

The St. Cloud State football team is ranked #5 in the first NCAA Division II Super Region #3 rankings. Colorado State-Pueblo is ranked #1, Nebraska-Kearney is #2, Minnesota-Duluth is #3, Wayne State is #4, SCSU is #5, Hillsdale (MI) is #6, Indianapolis is #7, Saginaw Valley State is #8, Ashland is #9, and Bemidji State is #10.

College Football: #13 Nebraska 41, Gophers 14 (Gophers are 1-6 will host Iowa at 2:30 Saturday afternoon, pregame on AM 1390-the Fan at 1:30) St. John's 24, Gustavus 16 (St. John's is 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the MIAC. St. John's will host Carleton at 1pm Saturday)

The St. Cloud State football won 24-17 at Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall Saturday night. Brad Meade played for the injured Phil Klaphake and was 12-23 passing for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns with 1 interception. Dante Steward ran for 101 yards on 20 carries and Michael Walker ran for 78 yards on 14 carries for SCSU. Both Renard Robinson and Seth Noreen had touchdown receptions for SCSU.

St. Cloud State sophomore quarterback Phil Klaphake is the NSIC offensive player of the week this week. He threw for 201 yards and a touchdown and ran for 75 yards and 2 touchdowns in SCSU's win over then 12th ranked California, Pa Saturday.
