This is "Severe Weather Awareness Week" in Minnesota. Each day is devoted to a specific topic: today (Monday) is alerts and warnings, tomorrow (Tuesday) is severe weather, lightning and hail, Wednesday is floods, Thursday is floods, and Friday is extreme heat.
Minnesota will conduct two tornado drills today (Thursday). The first drill is statewide at 1:45 p.m. It allows schools, businesses and hospitals to practice their emergency plans.
Minnesotans will get ready for storm season with Severe Weather Awareness Week starting Monday. The state has conducted Severe Weather Awareness Week for more than 25 years, in partnership with the National Weather Service and local governments.
