Earlier this month we marked the 10th anniversary of the start of the Iraq war. With Operation New Dawn, U.S. soldiers are no longer serving in combat missions in Iraq, but we still have a lot troops in the region.
Norway's top military officer will be at Camp Ripley tomorrow (Saturday). Chief of Defense for Norway General Harald Sunde is in Minnesota to recognize and honor the 40th anniversary of the United States/Norwegian Reciprocal Troop Exchange program.
National Guard soldiers will test their skills of marksmanship and skiing this week at Camp Ripley. Soldiers from across the upper Midwest are competing in the annual Regional Biathlon. The biathlon is an event that includes skiing as fast as you can for several kilometers with a .22-caliber rifle strapped to their back before stopping to shoot at five very small targets.
Wreaths will be placed at gravestones tomorrow (Saturday) at the Minnesota State Veterans' Cemetery. The St. Cloud Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol will be hosting their annual "Wreaths Across America" event at 11:00 a.m. at the cemetery near Camp Ripley.
