CAMP RIPLEY -- Don't be alarmed if you see large plumes of smoke from Camp Ripley this spring.

To reduce the risk of wildfire, the Army post will be starting it's annual round of controlled burns before the summer training season. The fires will happen on about 13,000 acres of the 53,000 acre base.

The burns are done in coordination with the Camp Ripley Department of Public Works, Camp Ripley Environmental Department, and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

During this time several military resources are standing by to ensure public safety. Communities most likely to see and smell the results of these burns are:

  • Little Falls
  • Randall
  • Pillager
  • Baxter
  • Brainder area.

If you'd like to contact Camp Ripley for more information, their public affairs office can be reached at 320-616-3122 and 320-616-2726 or email at anthony.a.housey.mil@mail.mil
