Poultry and livestock producers are upset with a plan by agribusiness giant Archer Daniels Midland Co. for a big grain elevator in Stearns County. The farmers fear it will drive up feed costs when corn prices are already near record highs.
The Stearns County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing today (Tuesday) on a plan to give a tax break to Archer Daniels Midland. However, they didn't take any action and plan to vote on it later this month.
A new grain elevator has been proposed for St. Joseph Township. Archer Daniels Midland wants to build the $20 million facility on a 70-acre site that would eventually become part of the city of Waite Park.
