ST. CLOUD - The Stearns County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing today (Tuesday) on a plan to give a tax break to Archer Daniels Midland.  However, they didn't take any action and plan to vote on it later this month.

ADM wants to build a $20 million grain handling facility on a 70-acre site in St. Joseph Township.

They're asking for a $1.2 million tax increment financing district to help improve the roads around the facility.  Several people spoke against the TIF today during the public hearing.  The board will still accept written testimony until June 21st.  At their June 21st meeting the board will decide on whether to grant the TIF and also a Conditional Use Permit.

The project can move forward without the TIF, but not the CUP.
