ST. CLOUD - St. Cloud State University is taking part in the statewide Veterans' Voices Month with a series of events planned in October.

The first event is the showing of the documentary "Restrepo" tonight in the Atwood Theater at 6:00 p.m. Veteran resource director Zac Mangas says the documentary was picked by student veterans at St. Cloud State.

The showing will follow with a student veteran panel who will talk about their experiences. Mangas says the event gives student veterans a chance to tell their stories.

Other events this month include Veterans Storytellers in Atwood on October 29th at 2:00 p.m. Student and community veterans will share their message through music, creative writing, short stories and poetry. Student veterans will also participate in a Trunk-or-Treat event at the Lindgren Childhood Center on October 31st at 5:00 p.m.

Governor Mark Dayton signed the Veterans' Voices Month bill on May 16th, making Minnesota the first state in the nation to have a month dedicated to veterans. It's a month to recognize veterans, their accomplishments and the challenges that they face.
