ST. CLOUD - A popular south St. Cloud gyro destination is expanding with a new location this summer.

New York Gyro is opening a new spot in the former McCann's building at 3310 3rd Street North. The building has also been home to O'Hara's Brewpub and Spicy Crab and Crawfish in the past. The Lupine Brewing Company now operates in the building basement.

Qamar Shahid is the owner of New York Gyro, he says they will be able to serve more customers with another location on the north side of town.

"We have a lot of customers which come from the north side and right now on the south we are mostly serving students, a lot of people were saying that we should come up north or to Sartell."

Shahid says the new building will also give them more space for sit-down dining compared to their current location.

"This is a bigger place so we will have a bigger dining area-so where families and people can bring their kids. The current location we have is more like a fast food setting with not much [of an area] to sit down."

New York Gyro came to St. Cloud in 2012. The current location near  University Drive South will continue to run normally. They serve New York-style gyros, pita sandwiches, kebabs and burgers.

Shahid says they hope to have the other location open by the end of June.
