ST. CLOUD - A St. Cloud man was arrested on Saturday after allegedly attacking a 66-year-old man from Sandstone.

The incident happened at about 9:15 a.m. on 4th Street and 8th Avenue North. Police say 32-year-old Phongsavanh Saengchanthalath attacked the man without provocation while he was walking to Cathedral High School.

Saengchanthalath hit and kicked the victim several times, even when he was on the ground.

A witness helped direct officers and a police dog was used to find the suspect in the 500 block of 8th Avenue North. Saengchanthalath was arrested and taken to the Stearns County Jail.

The victim was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Police say this was a random act and no weapons were used.
